Colchester Castle will capture the festive spirit when a Christmas Market takes place outside the castle walls.

The market will be open on the grounds immediately surrounding the historic castle from Friday 9th December to Sunday 11th December 2016.

The Christmas Market will see independent traders bringing a host of delicious treats and gifts for shoppers and visitors.

Amongst the delicacies on offer will be gourmet coffee beans, Spanish churros, pastries, sausages, Belgium chocolates. Then wash it down with a glass of delicious mulled wine or pint of beer.

There will also be gift stalls selling everything from hats to handmade lanterns. Stalls will be positioned on the grass areas bordering the walkways around the castle walls leaving the hard standing pathways for visitors to make their tour around the market.

Funfair and street entertainments, stage, bar, and seating area will add to the proceedings as well as festive lighting throughout.

The Colchester Christmas Market is run by Colchester Borough Council in partnership with Colchester Events Company and the Market Square Group.

Councillor Annie Feltham, Portfolio Holder for Business, Leisure and Opportunities said: “I am delighted that Castle Park will be hosting this festive event.

“The Castle and the Park will provide a beautiful backdrop for the stalls and entertainment – all adding to the spirit of Christmas.  So I encourage residents and visitors to come along and see what Colchester has to offer this weekend.”

It will run from 12pm to 8pm on Friday; 9am to 7pm on Saturday, and 10am to 5pm on Sunday. Entry to the market is free.

The event’s charity will be The Tom Bowdidge Foundation, launched in memory of Nikki and Richard Bowdidge’s son who died aged just 19 of a rare and aggressive cancer.
