Dickensian Market
Add Some Curiosity to Shopping
Perhaps now more than ever, it is essential that street markets find an identity that will arouse the curiosity of the visiting public and hold their attention. Adding some street animation to a well covered theme such as an accordian player for a French Market or a random fire breathing juggler is one way of doing it, but true authenticity comes from within and with the Dickens Market, we want our traders to live and breathe the life and times.
National Identity
Sweedlepipe, Honeythunder, Scrooge, Micawber, M’Choakumchild, Gradgrind to name but a few, Charles Dickens left us a rich legacy of literature most notable for characters that jump out of the page.....
Ask anyone abroad to name a famous British writer and Dickens is bound to be there or there abouts. What better theme then, to promote traditonal Old England, than a market populated by these 'larger than the page' creations of Britains best literary social commentator?
Home and Abroad
We see this theme as a valuable add on to towns and cities that have that have established events over a period of time, but who are now looking to add new value and keep the visiting public's attention. We will also be looking at the pontential that this event has for flying the flag abroad - such a universally identifiable theme would surely sit well on the Champs Elysee or The Old Market Square in Brussels.
Call to Traders
Enquiries are welcome from traders who are in a sense, larger than life and there are plenty of you out there – we know! Costume appropriate to the theme will be compulsory, but we are confident that the rewards in terms of venues and occasion are there for those of you who fit the bill.
'All the world’s a stage’ and we are looking for market traders who are prepared to walk the boards in order to capture the imagination of the visiting public. Full support will be provided from finding the costume to displaying the product - even perhaps a little 'theatrical training'.
Christmas is Coming
We are taking bookings now for the Christmas Period in 2010 and have already found this to be a popular idea - so if you are interested in booking The Dickens Market for your town - don't leave it too long before you contact us.
